The Awakening in Saint Petersburg
The Gospel began to be proclaimed in homes and public halls, awakening people from every walk of life to personal faith in Jesus Christ.
1911 — 1930 — 2030
The story of the House of the Gospel in Saint Petersburg, Russia — from spiritual awakening and its opening on Christmas Day in 1911, through its closure and confiscation in 1930, to the return of the building to believers after 94 years.
Mission
The House of the Gospel was envisioned as the central Baptist house of prayer in Russia and as a multi-purpose center for ministry — a place for worship, conferences, discipleship, publishing, mercy ministry, and Christian fellowship.
Today, its restoration has become a shared calling for churches and believers — a testimony of faithfulness, unity, remembrance, and hope in Christ.

The House of the Gospel in the early twentieth century
History
The Gospel began to be proclaimed in homes and public halls, awakening people from every walk of life to personal faith in Jesus Christ.
The ministry of Wilhelm Fetler opened a new chapter for the evangelical movement in Russia — marked by preaching, discipleship, and mission.
After imperial permission was granted, the Baptist congregation purchased land on the 24th Line for a permanent house of prayer.
On Christmas Day, the House of the Gospel opened as the first and only Baptist house of prayer in the capital of the Russian Empire.
The building was taken from the church, and believers entered decades of pressure, persecution, arrests, and dispersion.
Though the House of the Gospel was closed and believers faced decades of persecution, exile, and pressure, the church continued to live through scattered communities, families, and faithful servants.
After 94 years, the building was returned to the church — beginning a new chapter of prayer, restoration, and hope.
One hundred years after its closure, the House of the Gospel is being restored to serve its original calling once again.

For more than two years, volunteers have been working to clear, restore, and prepare the building for future ministry.
More than a historic place of worship, the House of the Gospel is envisioned as a space for interchurch gatherings and fellowship, a platform for spiritual and missionary education, evangelistic events, ministry initiatives, and the development of Christian creativity.
